Terms such as urban space design, formulation of environment-human interaction, the formal structuring of the city and the quality of urban space are frequently encountered in today's architectural literature and in all areas of life. Efforts to improve the quality of cities and urban spaces are gaining increasing importance today. The urban area is at the forefront of the areas where the relationship between human and the outside world can be observed directly. This area, which is open to the use of people from all parts of the society and where social life and public life takes place, is defined by its environment through physical features and at the same time defines its environment. In this sense, the urban area is an environmental unit as part of the physical environment and the quality of urban areas has an important place in architecture and environmental psychology. In this context, the aim of this study is to make a comparative quality evaluation on urban spaces. Within the scope of the study, Beşiktaş Square in Istanbul and San Marco Square in Venice were examined. The similar/different features of the two squares with a coastal formation are discussed. It has been concluded that the squares have similar and different characteristics in terms of the typology of the square, the structures limiting the square and the indicators of integrity, perception, ratio and scale, closure, accessibility, pedestrian circulation, vehicle traffic, accessibility, aesthetic elements, usage and activities.
