DESIGN OF A 1500- TON/HOUR CAPACITY BULK LOADING SHIPLOADER

Maritime transport is the most common and most reliable transportation system which is used international trade. Transportation of dry bulk cargoes such as grain, coal, soda ash, iron ore, fertilizers is usually carried by maritime transport. Shiploaders with different capacities and features are used during the loading of bulk cargoes. They are categorized as small-medium and large by size and capacity. In this study, details of the first shiploader designed in Turkey are presented. The structure of the shiploader has a capacity of 1500 ton per hour and it is capable of moving from one side to the other side of the port with a speed of 15 m/min. Total weight of the structure is 440,000 ton and more than 12000 kg welding operation is done during manufacturing processes. Computer-aided design is utilized for the simulation of components and assembly of shiploder parts. As a Finite Element (FE) Modeling tool for numerical modeling commercial FE software ANSYS R17.2 is used. First, the structure is divided into five sub-assemblies: Top side, Underside, Bogie System with 12 wheels, Bogie System with 20 wheels, Top side + underside. Moreover, the structure is analized in four different operational conditions for different arm angle orientations. Based on the critical loading conditions, components of the shiploader is designed and necessary design changes are made in order to prevent failure and tip-off of the structure.
