DESIGN OF A SPECIAL STEEL PUSH-SHEAR TEST PLATE TO INVESTIGATE THE SHEAR PERFORMANCE OF ANCHORED STEEL RODS ON BRICK WALLS OF A BUILDING

Almost all of the Turkey's population lives in earthquake zones. Due to the lack of engineering services or application errors, approximately 2/3 of the buildings built up to 2000 require retrofitting. In order to reinforce an existing brick wall building, there is a need of connectors to combine additional steel plate or reinforced concrete wall to one or two surfaces of the wall. The use of different wall materials in the construction of masonry buildings will affect both push-shear and pull-out performance of these anchored steel rods and shear performance of the walls. Therefore, it is very important to determine the shear and pull-out performance of the anchored steel rods on an existing brick walls of a building to be strengthened in situ prior to the reinforcement analyzes for the reliability of the analyzes. Within the scope of this study, to investigate shear performance of reinforcement anchorage with different diameters anchored on the walls of an existing masonary building a steel push-shear test plate is designed specialy. Using this push-shear test plate which is very practical in use and specialy designed, push-shear tests for three different diameters of anchors were conducted on an existing masonry building. The test results were found to be consistent with each other and the failure modes were as expected.
