OXYGEN CONSUMPTION RATE (OTH) CHANGES IN INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER DUE TO THE DILUTION FACTOR

The aim of this study was to measure the oxygen consumption rate of activated sludge obtained from the organized industrial (OSB) activated sludge plant by diluting the wastewater of an organic peroxide producing plant. The oxygen consumption rate, which varies depending on the dilution factor, gives important information about the state (activity) of the sludge or the inhibition of the plant's wastewater. In this experiment, the mixture water was subjected to aeration. When the oxygen concentration of the activated sludge and wastewater mixture reaches the maximum value, the aeration process was terminated. In order to calculate the oxygen consumption rate, the oxygen consumption rate was calculated from the slope of the current curve. Oxygen consumption rate is generally mg/L.da. The inhibition rates of the present wastewater are calculated from the tested sample and the wastewater oxygen consumption that constitutes the inhibition. In general, difficult-to-decompose complex organic materials (high molecular weight, long chain) have low oxygen consumption rates. As a result of this study, as seen from the oxygen consumption rate curves, the rate of oxygen consumption decreased as the dilution rate of the wastewater generated in the plant decreased. Adapted cultures are of great importance for efficient operation in organized industrial wastewater. In case of 40% dilution of activated sludge obtained from the organized industrial wastewater treatment plant and the wastewater of the existing plant, oxygen utilization rate is 0.0012 mg O2/L.sn.
