Today, developing technologies and increasing population can bring many problems. Construction activities are very effective on local and international capital and social relations as well as consuming limited resources. With each passing day, the importance of sustainability and sustainable design can be seen more clearly and defined as an inevitible concept. Interior design is a profession that influences the places and the user of the places. Interior designers should become aware of their own effect to environment, economy and social relations through design. By using natural resources, energy and water, interior design effects ecologic sustainability. At the same time it has an influence on monetary expenditure from individual to universal. So we could say it effects economic sustainability too. And finally it has an influence on social sustainability via setting interindividual relations and cultural codes. To summarize sustainability has three pillars and each pillar is to be effected by interior design. The aim of the study is an overall assessment of sustainability and sustainable design and their bilateral relations. In this study with the evaluation of three pillar of sustainability, the sustainable interior design is tried to be defined. And at the end of the study it has been made suggestions for future studies about sustainable interior design.
