CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEM DESIGN INVESTIGATION OF CORROSION EFFECTS ON FUEL TANKS AND OIL PIPES

One of the most common corrosion protection methods is cathodic protection. Cathodic protection is a procedure used to protect metal structures and pipelines embedded in an electrolytic environment against the electrochemical corrosion process. An external current cathodic protection system was designed in the study and its performance was evaluated at the end of the study. The system consists of a DC power source and a group of electrodes (anodes), the resulting electrical circuit,Balances have been created for the natural potential that exists between the surrounding environment and the protected building metal. In addition, the study presents a direct method by designing a cathodic protection system for tanks and transport pipelines. To achieve the least corrosion and to provide adequate protection for the life of the protected structure, a negative impact was made on the soil around the surface of the metal structure. With the study, measurements were made using a measuring cell consisting of a copper rod dipped in sulfate, at most (-0.85V) ferrous metal.Copper is a standard cell (CuSO4 / Cu), in addition, potential differences between any point on the surface of the protected metal structure and any point on the surface of the protected metal structure were measured. It has been ensured that the hydrogen gas accumulation on the metal surface does not exceed the soil (-2.5V) in order to prevent cracks in the packaging materials. When required for current DC, cathode protection, sufficient data and information about the metal structure, it's the coating, and the soil buried in it were collected and compared mathematically. in this study Measurement results proved that the cathodic protection system is suitable and effective in keeping the pipeline negative potential used within internationally valid standards.
