EFFECT OF PROCESS PARAMETERS ON STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF NANO-RUO2 PARTICLES PRODUCED BY HYDROTHERMAL METHOD

In present study, ruthenium oxide (RuO2) particles were produced by hydrothermal method at different times (12, 18 and 24 h) and different temperature (100, 150 and 200 °C). Ruthenium (III) chloride hydrate (RuCl3.xH2O) was used as Ru source and 1.5 g of RuCl3.xH2O was dissolved in 60 mL of distilled water and strirred with magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes. The pH of the solution was adjusted to 10 by adding NH4OH dropwise and stirred for 15 minutes. The final solution was ultrasonically strirred for 5 minutes and put in to 90 mL Teflon-linked autoclave. The hydrothermal process was done at three times (12, 18, 24 h) and three temperatures (100, 150, 200 °C). After the hydrothermal reactor was cooled back to room temperature, the precipitates were filtrated and washed several times with distilled water and dried at 100°C for 2 h in a muffle furnace. Than the particles were het treated at 600°C for 2 h to obtain RuO2 particles. The RuO2 particles were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM and EDS. The results show that the RuO2 particles were successfully produced by hydrothermal method. The size of the particles is in nanoscale range and changed with the change of process parameters. The average particle sizes range from 19.94-30.485 nm and the lowest particle sizes were reached in the sample produced in 24 h at 100 °C. The intensity of the XRD peaks increased as the reaction time increased. It was observed that temperature and time have an effect on the structural properties of the nano-RuO2 particles produced in the hydrothermal method.
