ENERGY MANAGEMENT OF A WATER RESOURCES SYSTEM WITH MULTIPLE RESERVOIRS: MIDDLE SAKARYA RIVER

Planning and management of water resources is a multi-dimensional and complex process. Within this scope, water management benefits importance for many purposes on the multi-reservoir basin. This study is about optimal energy production on reservoir for energy production on the middle Sakarya River’s Basin. After mathematical relations are completed here for the reservoir system, optimal energy production purpose optimization model has been established on the system. Sarýyar, Gökçekaya and Yenice Reservoirs among the reservoirs of this system were planned for energy production purpose. Optimization technique of the Dynamic Programming with successive approximations (DPSA) was used in the model. The aim function of the modal has two stages; reliable enlargement with monthly dry period was aimed at the first stage and total energy enlargement by using the obtained reliable energy model as limit at the second stage. As previously planned results for the basin are compared with the obtained results, it was seen that the established optimization model yields better results. In the optimization model, it was observed that the reservoir with the largest volume controls and manages the enlargement process. Suggestions in terms of energy production for long term planning by applying the optimization model developed as future study to entire Sakarya Basin will be made.
