FOLDABLE AND SUSTAINABLE SHELTER & BUILDING MATERIAL AND COMMERCIALIZATION BY USING CANVAS MODEL

According to the UN Refugee Agency, in 2017, the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes worldwide came at a record rate of 44,400 every day. Fuelled in large part by new crises in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Myanmar, as well as the ongoing conflict in Syria, this population swelled by a net 2.9 million in 2017, raising the cumulative total to 68.5 m at the year's end. It means the world's forcibly displaced population has now overtaken that of the United Kingdom and reached another record high. In addition to that, for the period of 2015-2018, EU budget for refugee crisis and improving migration management was more than the double of the projected initial allocation, 22 bn EUR instead of 9.6 bn EUR. Thus, it is more than clear that the refugee problem is becoming more severe each year. When we consider the conditions of the refugees from the perspective of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, shelter is one of the needs that consist the base of our needs pyramid. In other words, it is obligatory for each and every person to shelter in order to survive. However, this need of asylum-seekers is provided in poor humanitarian conditions, which is not suitable at all, especially for today's world. Tent shelters are both unhealthy and are housing solutions that are not suitable for harsh climatic conditions. Container houses on the other hand, have high transfer and installation costs. Also, they are unable to fulfill the needs in a timely manner when there is an intensive refugee movement. The aim is to develop, pilot and commercialise a disruptive E-Brick solution. a shelter system that provides a unique solution to this basic and essential requirement. It can be transferred as easily and fast as a tent, there is no need for heavy duty machines and giant transfer vehicles for shelters such as containers. Since it is a reversible product, it can be easily installed and dismantled without specialization; can be installed repeatedly. As it is produced with wood chipboard, it is both healthy, environmentally and energy friendly. There is no demolition waste and it is 100% recyclable. It is cost-effective and cheaper than container houses. E-Brick supports teamwork during the construction of the project, allows refugees to transform their potential energies into the workforce. It gives them the opportunity to build their new homes and new lives, while gaining confidence, motivation and self respect again. E-Brick is patented in different countries (China, Japan, Canada, US, and Europe) application number are mentioned in the IPR section. Int his study, Canvas Model is used for the Commercialization of the product.
