Material selection is a major step in any design discipline. Even a material can ruin a creative idea or can give an expression even beyond the expectations. Especially in disciplines such as architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and industrial design, physical materials are important designing tools. The development of technology is changing the living, needs and tastes of the society. Thus, the changing society is always demanding more than technology. This demand pushes material studies for a continuous change and development.
Material libraries offer designers and designer candidates the opportunity to experience their preferred materials visually and tactual with their rich content. Thus, designers can experience the materials how they look, feel or even smell... Also designers or customers of these material libraries can receive consulting service about the innovative material.
The aim of this study is to introduce materials libraries and to share their benefits within the context of interior design. The benefits provided by the materials libraries will be presented as a diagram by matching the needs of the interior design.
As a result, it can be said that material libraries inspire innovative ideas for new designs and provides opportunity for designers to follow material diversity and to select of the most suitable materials.
