PRODUCTION OF PURE TITANIUM METAL POWDER BY POWDER METALLURGY SINTERING TECHNIQUE

In this study, the powder metallurgy method was chosen to produce pure titanium powders. Pure metal powders were produced by pressing in an 11 mm diameter pellet mold at 20MPA pressure and then sintering at 1000 0C for 4 hours in a vacuum environment from the oxygen atmosphere. Finally, the effect of the production method and process parameters on the microstructure of the metal was investigated. The produced sample was characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Vickers microhardness determination and density measurement. In the XRD pattern of the sample, the titanium phase was found with 00-044-1294>Ti card. The production of pure titanium metal by powder metallurgy technique yielded a gain of %7,23 g/cm3 in the density value of the sample. The pore structures of the sample produced with TM were found to be homogeneously distributed and spherical, while the grain size was found to be considerably lower than the initial powder size of titanium. Vickers hardness values were taken under 100 grams load/10 sec touching time. The final vickers hardness value, measured as the average of five values, was measured as 382 kgf/mm2. The results show that a sample having a microstructure similar to high condensation, homogeneous chemical composition, high tensile strength is obtained.
