THE INTERNET OF THINGS BASED PULSE OXIMETER DESIGN FOR SLEEP APNEA DETECTION

Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method for monitoring a person's oxygen saturation (SO2). Pulse-oximeter; is a biomedical device that does not emit heat or radiation, which informs doctors about heart rate measurement and blood oxygen measurement. Pulse-oximeters are generally used in hospitals to determine patient's oxygen needs or oxygen follow-up. The transfer of pulse oximetry data to the internet makes it possible to transmit oxygen level remotely measurement in the outside of the hospital and transmit it to the necessary places such as medical personnel. In this paper, the design of the internet of things based pulse oximeter is presented. Designed system consist of three main parts; the oximeter sensor, microprocessor platform and Wi-Fi communication module. The oximeter sensor is used to measure the oxygen level at the time of sleep. The oxygen level data is evaluated by microprocessor and it is transmitted via Wi-Fi communication module. This paper clearly show that the remotely detection of the sleep apnea is possible without affecting the quality of life of the patient with such proposed design. This paper presented the design and implementation of the IoT based pulse oximeter. The results show that the remotely apnea detection is possible such this approach. Future work will consider the development of proposed approach using other medical sensors. It is expected that the designed system will be more useful than existing oximeter because of remotely monitor is possible.
