THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS OF HYBRID NATURAL FIBERS REINFORCED POLYESTER COMPOSITES.

The increasing environmental concern are driving composite industry to use of natural fiber as reinforcing material. The low cost and availability, low density, high strength to weight ratio of natural fiber is replacing synthetic fiber such as glass, carbon and aramid fiber in many applications. The origin of synthetic fiber is the petroleum- based resource. Production of synthetic fiber from their origin is not eco-friendly. Additionally, their usage gradually depleting fossil fuel, results in generating environmental risk. The natural fibers are bio-degradable, renewable, obtained from natural resources. Ease, hygienic and low time required for processing, are increasing their usage in the composite as better alternative to synthetic fiber. The NFRCs are using in aircraft, personal protective clothing, automobile, sports and medical equipment. One of the drawbacks of natural fiber reinforced polymer composite is relatively lower mechanical properties. One method to increase their mechanical performance is hybridization. Hybrid composite consists of two or more natural fiber reinforcement in a polymer matrix. This paper intends to review the research carried out on the mechanical properties of hybrid composites. This current study explicates that mechanical properties such as tensile, bending and impact strength of hybrid composite are higher than those of composite made by the same constituent of single fiber.
