USAGE OF OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE SEAT

One of the most important expectations of passengers from the automotive industry is safety. For this reason, the automotive industry has tried to increase passenger safety over the years and has integrated passive safety systems such as seat belts and airbags into the vehicle. The use of these systems significantly reduces injuries and deaths resulting from traffic accidents. For this reason, the correct use and operation of passive safety systems in vehicles have been became one of the priorities of the automotive industry. Occupant detection systems, the use of which has increased considerably in recent years, have been designed for this purpose and integrated into today's vehicles. In these systems, data from a pressure sensor which placed on the vehicle seats is used to control the seat belt reminder and airbag systems. The pressure sensor, which detects the passenger sitting in the vehicle seat, triggers the seat belt reminder system and gives audible and visual signals to remind the passenger to fasten the seat belt. In addition, unnecessary operation of the airbag system can be prevented by making inferences about the person sitting on the seat or the object found. In this study, the use of passenger detection systems in vehicle seats will be evaluated.
