DESIGN OF ULTRA-WIDEBAND ANTIPODAL VIVALDI ANTENNA

The electromagnetic spectrum is divided into different frequency bands and these divided bands are allocated for use in various wireless communication systems. Antennas, which are located in the environment where all kinds of wireless communication exist, constitute an important building block of today's communication systems. There are many antenna structures with different types and structures operating in various frequency bands. One of them is the Vivaldi antenna structure, which is widely used in ultra-wide band systems (UWB). Vivaldi antenna, which was invented by Gibson, finds a place in broadband applications with its superior features. Many different Vivaldi antenna designs have been realized from past to present. In this paper, the design and analyses of the antipodal Vivaldi antenna are presented. In the antenna, FR4 dielectric material, which is widely used in antenna designs, is selected and used. The designed antenna has a compact size which is 35 x 35 x 1 mm3. FR4 has a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a tangent loss value of 0.02. It has a bandwidth of 10.1 GHz, which starts from 2.7 GHz and ends at 12.8 GHz. The antenna has reasonable gain values in the operation range. In this context, it is foreseen that the proposed structure can be utilized in distinct UWB applications. ORCID NO: 0000-0003-0371-0473
