INVESTIGATION OF MITIGATING SCOUR EFFECTS ON BRIDGE PIERS USING FLOW-3D SOFTWARE

The scouring of sediments around bridge foundations in the reiver bed leading to collapses it remains a significant problem, causing both economic losses and risking human lives. This investigation focuses on studying the effects of flow-altering methods on reducing scour around bridge piers, using different types of bridge pier shapes. Two shapes of bridge piers will use in this study namely circular and nosed piers, are utilized to investigate the local scour phenomena by using CFD numerical method. In recent years, three-dimensional simulation methods for scouring have gained popularity due to advancements in computer capabilities and software, enabling the widespread utilization of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze fluid flow behavior in various industrial and environmental applications. A numerical model is created for all models and used to compare and validate the results obtained from the experimental study with the numerical outcomes. By examining the impact of flow-altering methods and comparing different bridge pier shapes, this investigation aims to provide valuable insights into the reduction of local scour around bridge piers depended on the optimum pier shape. The findings contribute to the advancement of CFD techniques for mitigating the local scour depth around bridge pier and improving the design of bridge stability. ORCID NO: 0000-0002-3999-401X
