MANUFACTURE, PROPERTIES, AND APPLICATIONS OF METAL FOAMS - AN OVERVIEW
 
For usage in advanced engineering applications like marine, aerospace, civil, industrial, and automotive engineering, there has been an increase in the need for lightweight and high-specific strength materials in recent years. Previous investigations have demonstrated that sandwich structures achieve these desired performances. A sandwich structure is a type of composite material produced by placing a light core material between two thin and strong shell materials. While shell materials are usually made of lightweight materials such as aluminum or fiber-reinforced composite laminates, honeycomb, wood, metal foam, and syntactic foam materials can be utilized as core materials in sandwich structures. In this review, metal foam material was examined among all these materials. Metal foams have become the most promising material class in the industrial and scientific field due to the advantages of the perfect combination of mechanical properties such as low weight, high energy absorption capacity, high stiffness, and high damping capacity. Various techniques for the preparation of metal foams were reviewed in the study. The properties of metal foams such as mechanical properties, energy absorption properties, acoustic properties, and conductivity were explained. Finally, an overview of various industrial applications of metal foams was presented. This short study will be light on researchers, academics, and industries. ORCID NO: 0000-0002-4060-5608
