OPERATING INLET PRESSURE ASSESSMENT FOR MICRO-IRRIGATION SUBMAINS: DESIGN APPLICATION
 
The determination of the proper operating inlet pressure head is important for hydraulic design of the multi-outlet plastic pipelines in irrigation subunits. This paper offers simple, direct but sufficiently accurate relationships to determine the operating inlet pressure head incorporating different uniformity patterns. For this purpose, some mathematical expressions were initially deduced to relate different micro-irrigation uniformity patterns; such as Christiansen uniformity coefficient, coefficient of variation of discharge and allowable pressure head variation; then, the operating inlet pressure head is simply reformulated by taking into account a multiplying factor, α to the required average outlet pressure head , in terms of different uniformity parameters. Resulting, the influence of different uniform pipe slopes (0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05) on the water application uniformity as well as the operating inlet pressure head for various emitter models, were graphically presented. Practical results for an extensive comparison test covering different pipe slopes and emitter discharge exponents indicate that, the performance of the proposed technique is sufficient in comparison with those of the previous accurate analytical and numerical design procedures.Practical results for an extensive comparison test covering different pipe slopes and emitter discharge exponents indicate that, the performance of the proposed technique is sufficient in comparison with those of the previous accurate analytical and numerical design procedures.
