OPTIMIZATION OF PROCESS PARAMETERS FOR MINIMIZATION OF WRINKLE AND TEARING IN DEEP DRAWING PROCESS USING TAGUCHI APPROACH

Deep drawing process is widely used in parts of automobile, plane and computer, fuel tanks and household goods. During deep drawing process, the process parameters and mechanical properties of material directly affect product quality. If the process parameters and mechanical properties of material are not selected suitable, the formed part is occurred defects. The principal defects are wrinkle and tearing. So, these parameters should be optimized to improve product quality and reduce wastes. Aim of this study to investigate effect of process parameters on product quality in deep drawing process and to determinate optimum process parameters using Taguchi method. At the same time relationships among the process parameters are to examine. The deep drawing tests were realized with three level die radius, lubricants, punch velocity and blank holder force. The most effective variable on product quality in deep drawing process was determined as blank holder force which effect on wrinkle and tearing. Die radius, lubrication and punch velocity exert a effect on the wrinkle and tearing. Also The interactions of Die radius (A) / Lubrication (B) present significant percentage contributions on the wrinkle and tearing of sheet metal. The estimated S/N ratios using the optimal testing parameters for wrinkle and tearing were calculated and a good agreement was observed between the predicted.
