STUDY ON INTEGRATION OF TELECAMERA BASED LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEMS TO VEHICLES
 
Lane Departure Warning Systems (LDWS) have become an important safety feature in today's automobile world. LDWS uses a variety of sensors and cameras to monitor the vehicle's position on the road and to detect and warn when the vehicle is drifting out of its lane. Among these sensors, camera-based LDWS systems with image processing have become increasingly common due to their high accuracy and low cost. The LDWS Camera is the most important component of the system and works through image processing. In ensuring the correct function of the camera component of the Lane Departure Warning System; External factors such as snow, ice and dirt on the windshield, neglected or deformed signboards and stripes on the highway reveal negative results. In addition, the position of the camera belonging to the Lane Departure Warning System on the vehicle and the camera holder bracket that make up the system, the aesthetic cover that hides the camera from the driver and passengers, the windshield, the glass-mounted base bracket and the electrical installation affect the design, placement and camera integration and performance of peripheral components. In order to ensure the functionality of the camera in the most appropriate way, there are performance criteria such as good ventilation of the camera in the area where the placement is made, removal of the mist on the glass in a short time due to the difference in interior and exterior temperature, and prevention of reflection from the glass surface to the camera lens. In addition to all these, aesthetic design and geometric integration requirements also complicate the placement of the Lane Departure Warning System and its integration into the car. In a Lane Departure Warning System integration study carried out in the R&D department of TOFAŞ Turkish Automobile Factory, solutions of different brands were examined, and studies were carried out to develop brackets and protective covers with different structural designs. With these studies, various Geometric Integration and Performance results were obtained and these results were analyzed, and as a result, optimum layout solutions were obtained in terms of geometric integration and performance with the improving structural design elements added on the protective cover with the LDWS bracket.
