THE INVESTIGATION AND COMPARISON OF THE PROPERTIES OF HADFIELD STEELS USED IN MINING AND HEAVY MACHINERY AFTER HEAT TREATMENT PROCESS
 
This study aimed to analyze and contrast the characteristics of Hadfield steels employed in mining and heavy-duty machinery following the process of heat treatment. We obtained help from the ASÇELİK firm in our studies Thanks to the technical support of ASÇELİK, two steps testing methods were applied. Initial testing was focused on Hadfield steels used in mining and heavy-duty gear without heat treatment. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis was conducted to identify appropriate heat treatment techniques and qualities for Hadfield steels. Based on this analysis, the specific Hadfield steel series and corresponding heat treatment procedures were determined. Subsequently, the necessary tests for the analysis of the findings were established. Following the studies, the sample was separated into two equal parts, one part undergoing heat treatment while the other classified as control group. Subsequently, metallographic characterization, tensile testing, notched impact testing, and hardness testing were conducted. According to the results of this study, it was found out that the carbide precipitation and perlite formation were possible if the cooling stage is delayed during annealing. Carbide formations near grain boundaries has potential to degrade steel's mechanical properties. The hardness, yield and tensile strength of Hadfield steels have been enhanced by modifying the heat treatment procedures to align with the desired attributes. ORCID NO: 0000-0001-6787-4229
