The wear, which causes energy loss in the mechanical systems, warming of the system, low tolerance operations of the system with less performance during power and motion transmission, has been a subject to focus on since the industrial revolution. Although it is an expectation to eliminate the wear incident from mechanical systems, scientists and engineers are working in their relevant search interests and have tried ways to minimize the abrasion incident instead of elimination of wear. Beside the lubrication process which is one of the most famous methods of reducing wear and friction from the tooth surface of spur gears. Up to now different methods have been developed to improve the tooth surfaces of spur gears. One of these methods is the application of coating on surface of spur gear flank. Coating spur gears which content relative rotational and sliding motion with solid lubricant (MoS2, WC/C) improve the performance of system, reduce the energy loss, save time and increase endurance limit of mechanism. the study, the effects of MoS2, WC / C surface coating on surface wear of spur gear were investigated. The investigated studies determined the problems that spur gear mechanisms were exposed to under operating conditions. Suggestions were presented for the solution of detected problems. Comparisons of these solution suggestions were done.
